THE ROLES OF A CORDINATING CENTRE TUTOR (CCT):
- Supports the PTE in- Service students and Head teachers in their module reading, ensuring that each module is read and completed in time.
- Plans and organizes, Peer Group Meetings for the teachers and Head teachers to discuss issues identified from module reading and problems encountered during module reading.
- Plans and provides professional support to qualified Primary School teachers and Head teachers through mentoring.
- Plans and conducts community mobilization for the enhancement of UPE and Girl Child Education.
- Conducts mentoring need assessment among teachers and Head teachers for purpose of planning for mentoring sessions.
- Guides and counsels the In-service students, qualified Primary School teachers and Head teachers.
- Offers support in the implementation of Government policy e.g. UPE programme, HIV/AIDS Education, Girl Child Education, Environmental protection, inclusive Education,TE,Thematic curriculum,EMSI etc
- Prepares reports on the activities in the catchment area.
- Organizes and conducts CPDs for Primary teachers and Head teachers within the catchment area.
- Administers, Marks and keeps records of continuous assessment / achievement tests for the In-service students in his/her catchment area.
- Plans, develops and manages the Resource Centre for use by the Primary teachers, Head teachers and members of the community.
- Facilities the Primary School teachers to make teaching/learning aids.
- Facilitates at head teacher and PTE In-service residentials.
- Attends meetings at the District in the College catchment area, at the College and at the local levels and assists in the implementation of the resolutions passed at such meetings.
- Currently, most Core Colleges do not have modules and therefore, CCTs have to physically get involved in actual teaching during the Peer Group Meetings.
- Tenders advice on the utilization of UPE funds.
- Facilitates the enhancement of UPE programmes.eg.CIE, TE, EMSI
- Sensitizes school Management Committees on their roles and those of other stakeholders in enhancing UPE.
- Offers support in assessing the needs of the Primary schools in his/her catchment area for the purpose of developing School Development Plans.
- Facilitates the identification of children with special education needs who might still be out of school in the communities and those in schools who might still not be receiving adequate attention.
- Facilitates the implementation of COPE, ABEK, etc. by offering professional support to those implementing those Curricular. Note that CCT’s made a lot of contribution to the development of ABEK Curriculum for the karimojong.
- Mobilizes communities to put up school buildings e.g. In some communities the CCT’s have mobilized the communities to put up teacher’s houses.CCT’s have mobilized Communities to make bricks for generating money to enable them improve upon their welfare.
- Helps teachers and Head teachers reflect on their day-today teaching/management work.
